What is the Expense Split?
When several people pay for shared costs at different times, the fair settlement is simple in principle: everyone should end up having paid an equal share of the total. Anyone who paid more than their share is owed the difference; anyone who paid less owes it.

Balance = What you paid − Equal share
Worked example: four friends pay ₹12,000, ₹4,500, ₹8,000 and ₹1,500 — a total of ₹26,000, so the fair share is ₹6,500 each. Person 1 gets back ₹5,500 and Person 3 gets ₹1,500; Person 2 owes ₹2,000 and Person 4 owes ₹5,000.
