Walnut (now axio) vs Expense Tracker

Facts checked on 2026-09-19 from the live store listings and websites listed under Sources. Store prices are the India storefront labels exactly as shown. We make Expense Tracker, so read this as the maker's comparison — the places where Walnut (now axio) is better are listed first.

The short answer

If you want spends to appear automatically from your bank SMS and are comfortable with an app that also sells credit, axio (the old Walnut) does that for free. If you would rather type each entry and keep your SMS and data private, with no lending upsell, Expense Tracker is the alternative.

Where Walnut (now axio) is the better choice

Where Expense Tracker is the better choice

If you switch

Export your history from Walnut (now axio) first and keep the file. Expense Tracker starts empty: there is no importer built for Walnut (now axio)'s backup format. The Pro CSV import is designed for bank-statement exports; a spreadsheet from another app may work if it has date, description and amount columns, but we have not tested Walnut (now axio)'s export. Most people simply start fresh on the 1st of a month and keep the old app for reference.

Questions

What happened to the Walnut app?

Walnut is now axio. The same Google Play package (com.daamitt.walnut.app) is listed as "axio: Income & Expense Tracker" by Axio Digital Pvt. Ltd., which says it was formerly known as Capital Float, Walnut and Walnut 369 (checked 19 September 2026).

Does axio still track expenses automatically?

Yes. Its Play listing describes it as an SMS-based money management app that analyses transactional SMS to detect spends.

Is there a Walnut alternative that does not read SMS?

Expense Tracker: Income Manager has no SMS permission. You enter spends yourself, or copy a bank SMS or UPI message and let the Pro parser read it on the phone.
